| Northeast Ohio GBI Update, July 27, 2007 Welcome to the Northeast Ohio Green Building Initiative. The Northeast Ohio GBI's mission is promote energy efficient and environmentally friendly building solutions within the residential and commercial building industry The Northeast Ohio GBI is a voluntary residential program developed by the HBA of Greater Cleveland and North Coast BIA to promote and facilitate practical approaches to green construction. The program, based on the National Association of Home Builder's (NAHB) Model Green Home Building Guidelines, is designed to offer local builders information on products and building practices to help build homes to meet their buyers' diverse needs. This program is the first of its kind in Northeast Ohio and both associations are very excited about the opportunity to provide our members with the necessary tools to build and market green homes to their consumers. |

| A Letter from the Executive Officers Again, welcome to the Northeast Ohio Green Building Initiative It's nearly impossible these days to open a newspaper or magazine and not see a story about the rapid growth of green building, where new homes are built using materials that conserve energy and environmental resources. In fact, a recent survey of home builders by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and McGraw Hill Construction found that by 2010 one of every ten homes built will be "green". Green building has entered the mainstream and is captivating both the media and consumer marketplace. The Northeast Ohio GBI is the first of its kind in the Northeast Ohio area and we are excited about the opportunity to provide our members with the necessary tools to build and market green homes to their consumers. Owners of green homes in Northeast Ohio can reap various benefits, including utility savings, improved indoor air quality and less overall maintenance. By building green, homeowners will also benefit the entire community. The voluntary guidelines can be tailored to the needs of interested home buyers during the building process. Green building practices examine the potential to save energy and reduce waste, both during and after construction. |

Third Party Verifiers |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A third party verifier performs the role of an independent, neutral entity in conducting evaluations/ verifications for use by the Northeast Ohio GBI. The primary objective of third party assessments/ verifications is to authenticate both the information provided by builders on the GBI fast-from checklist and the builders' assertions of having achieved a specified level of performance. Independent verifiers are hired by builders for added assurance that submitted checklists accurately reflect the work performed. The verifiers follow an itemized checklist of criteria to verify based on the GBI checklist. Verifiers also adhere to a Code of Ethics.
