KENTUCKY AND ILLINOIS RECOGNIZE GREEN BUILDING INITIATIVE'S™ GREEN GLOBES™ SYSTEM
—States Become Tenth and Eleventh in U.S. to Include Green Globes in Legislation—

Portland, Ore. (September 13, 2007) — Kentucky and Illinois recently became the tenth and eleventh states in the United States to formally recognize the Green Building Initiative's (GBI) Green Globes environmental assessment and rating system in legislation.

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher signed a bill to advance the state's energy policy through science, technology, and innovation, which encourages the Finance and Administration Cabinet to utilize the Green Gobles system or the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) LEED system.

In Illinois, the state senate passed a bill requiring any school construction project applying for a grant to be certified to Green Globes, LEED or the green building standards of the Capital Development Board and its Green Building Advisory Committee.

"We applaud Kentucky and Illinois for encouraging sustainable design and construction practices with their new policies," said Ward Hubbell, president of the GBI. "We also applaud them for providing multiple options in the marketplace, which helps drive continuous improvement and encourages more people to design and build green."

Kentucky and Illinois join Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin as states which have formally recognized Green Globes in green building legislation or regulation.
