100^th Building Achieves BOMA Canada's Go Green Certification

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA) is proud to announce the achievement of a significant milestone since launching its National Go Green (Visez-vert) program one year ago. On April 18^th, 2006, the 100th building in Canada attained Go Green Certification: the Atrium on Bay in Toronto Ontario.

The Atrium on Bay building, which is owned by Brookfield Properties and the Ellman Companies, and managed by Brookfield Properties, is located in the hub of Toronto's downtown north area with over one million square feet of office space and 200,000 square feet of retail space, with connection to the city's financial core through the PATH walkway.

"It is a great honour to be acknowledged by BOMA Canada as the 100th Go Green certified building in Canada. The achievement is a true testament to the ongoing commitment from the Ownership Group and Brookfield Properties to minimizing potential adverse effects on the environment and promoting the use of efficient management systems and tenant practices in our buildings," says Joseph Aguiar, General Manager, Atrium on Bay.

The BOMA Go Green National Environmental Certification program is a unique, voluntary program designed for existing or occupied commercial buildings of all sizes, and is offered by BOMA Canada as a service to all member and nonmember commercial building owners in Canada.

"Since the first building in Canada to achieve Go Green Certification in 2003 in British Columbia, interest in and enthusiasm for the Go Green program has grown exponentially across the country," says Esther Paterson, President of BOMA Canada.

In addition to the 100 individual buildings which have already achieved Go Green status, numerous major commercial real estate firms across the country have signed on as strong supporters of the Go Green program.

Go Green has also become a key element in the greening of federal and provincial office buildings in Canada and a recognized benchmark for environmental leadership. Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) has adopted the Go Green Plus Program as the environmental benchmark for existing federal office buildings in Canada, and the Alberta Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation recently announced that the Alberta Government is adopting the Go Green Program as an environmental standard for the operation of its major provincial government buildings across the Province.
