BOMA CANADA ANNOUNCES PWGSC ADOPTION OF GO GREEN
OTTOWA (December 13, 2005) — The Building and Owners Managers Association of Canada (BOMA) has always worked closely with Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) on issues and programs affecting the Canadian Real Estate Industry. BOMA Canada now proudly announces that Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) has adopted BOMA Canada's Go Green Comprehensive Program as the official national environmental program for existing Federal Government buildings in Canada. With this announcement, the Go Green Comprehensive Program becomes a key element of the federal government's commitment to the greening of federal office buildings and a benchmark for environmental leadership.
Go Green is a new national environmental recognition and certification program for all commercial buildings which has been developed and launched across the country by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA). Go Green Comprehensive provides a unique benchmarking tool that provides a tangible assessment as to how well a building is performing on key environmental measurements.
"Our decision to adopt the Go Green standard for all federal government office buildings demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to greening its operations," said the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada. "In April we stated that any new federal office buildings would be built to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold standard. BOMA Go Green Comprehensive complements this standard by helping us meet our sustainable development commitments in the operations of existing buildings."
"We are delighted by PWGSC's endorsement, which demonstrates the value and importance of Go Green. As a unique, comprehensive program developed by the commercial real estate industry, Go Green showcases environmental leadership and encourages sustainable building management practices," said Hugh Gorman, President of BOMA Canada.
The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Canada is the voice of Canada's commercial real estate industry with over 2,000 members in regional associations across Canada. On behalf of the building owners, managers, developers, facilities managers, asset managers, leasing agents, brokers, and the product and service providers to over 1.9 Billion square feet of commercial real estate in Canada, BOMA Canada addresses issues of national concern, and promotes excellence in the industry through information, education, advocacy, and recognition.
