GBI Signs MOUs with Illinois and Tennessee Home Builder Associations

With the Learning Management System (LMS) now complete, the Green Building Initiative is establishing educational partnerships with home builder associations (HBAs) that want to offer the online training modules to their builder members.

Available to any association in the GBI network, the HBAs of Illinois and Tennessee are the latest to join a growing list that also includes the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of New Hampshire, the Texas Association of Builders, and the Home Builders Association of Chicago.

The LMS was developed in partnership with Building Media Inc. and green building science expert Steve Easley. It features eight virtual training modules and one for associate members, which HBAs can make accessible via their Web sites. Developed to coincide with the areas of assessment in the recently approved National Green Building Standard™, the modules include:

• Construction Basics
• Green Building Basics, including:
  • Green Building Overview
  • Energy Basics
  • Water and Moisture Management
  • Windows
  • HVAC System Overview
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Energy Efficient Homes
  • Water Efficiency

Each module combines video presentations, slide shows, study guides and quizzes that allow participants to test their comprehension of the learned material. Builders simply select a topic and move through the information at their own pace.
