Home Builder Association Launches Build Green Greater Columbia

In response to South Carolina’s increasing demand for green homes, the Home Builder Association of Greater Columbia recently launched a local green building program—Build Green Greater Columbia—in partnership with GBI, as well as a new Green Building Council.

Based on the National Association of Home Builders’ Model Green Home Building Guidelines, the program is designed to verify that homes in the region are built to green standards.

“We’re essentially re-thinking the way homes are built,” said council chairman Mark Bostic of Square One Design Service. “We are exploring methods to make them more environmentally friendly, longer lasting, and less expensive to operate and maintain through the applied science of building technology.”

The Council was established to, among other things, administer the program and help to educate building professionals regarding the many elements of sustainable construction.

Build Green Greater Columbia brings to 16 the number of local green building programs developed with support from GBI.
