The Majority of US Homes Don’t Meet Minimum Code for Insulation

The fact that a vast majority of American homes don’t meet the minimum International Energy Conservation Code for insulation is one of the main reasons that the average home wastes between 10% and 50% of its energy, says the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA).

This map shows NAIMA’s recommended thermal insulation levels based on the Code and US Department of Energy recommendations. Following these levels should help homeowners to maximize comfort and qualify for a federal tax credit.
