Affordable Green Community to Debut at National
Green Building Conference
March 25-27, 2007

Having launched its VISION House Series last year with a high-end home designed to show that green building can be beautiful, Green Builder Media will soon showcase its second project—a subdivision of five average-size homes demonstrating that green building can also be affordable.

Constructed by Belcher Homes in compliance with the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines, the project will debut at the upcoming National Green Building Conference in St. Louis, MO. As part of the conference, the Green Building Initiative will host a series of educational seminars and demonstrations in one of the new VISION homes, providing a real world context for green building concepts and techniques.

“There isn’t one correct way to build a sustainable home,” says Matt Belcher, president of Belcher Homes and chair of the conference.  “Depending on the climate and other geographic considerations, different approaches will be appropriate in different parts of the country.  But green building is nowhere near as restrictive as some people seem to believe. You can incorporate energy-efficiency, health and environmental considerations into whatever size or type of home you want to build.”

Situated on an infill site, the homes will demonstrate a variety of green building principles and products, including appropriate land use, alternative building systems, renewable energy and the use of natural materials.  They’ll feature multiple shell options, including steel and concrete systems such as ICFs, structural insulated panels, and engineered-wood building components to improve structural integrity.
