State Policy Leaders Recognize Green Globes™ System for Energy-efficiency

In a move designed to reduce harmful emissions as well as US reliance on foreign oil, the Council of State Governments has passed a resolution encouraging greater energy-efficiency in new and existing buildings—and recognizing Green Globes as a credible way to meet that goal.

Specifically, the Council resolved to:

  • Encourage all states to obtain energy-efficiency audits of existing buildings owned, leased or operated by the state, and to incorporate suggested energy saving measures,
  • Encourage that all new state buildings be built according to Green Globes, LEED or other high performance building standards for energy efficiency, and
  • Adopt energy-saving measures in its own buildings, to be paid for via performance contracting.

As part of its management directives, the Council will also support efforts to update statewide building codes to Green Globes, LEED or other high performance standards.

The Council resolution follows initiatives by six individual states—including Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—which have recognized and encouraged the use Green Globes as part of legislation or Executive Order.
