GBI Seeks Applicants for Standards Development Committee

Last year, GBI became the first green building organization to be accredited as a standards developer by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)—allowing us to begin the process of establishing our commercial offering, the Green Globes environmental assessment and rating system, as an official ANSI standard.

As part of ANSI requirements, GBI is creating a technical committee that will be responsible for developing, maintaining, approving and achieving consensus on the Green Globes Standard for the design, construction and upkeep of environmentally preferable buildings.

The committee will include a balance of:

  • Producers—such as building material producers, contractors, builders, engineers and manufacturers of building system equipment;
  • Users—such as developers, architects, insurance companies, building occupants, disabled rights activists, realtors, utilities, property management companies and government; and
  • General interests—such as educators, regulatory agencies, technical societies, consumer groups, environmental groups and non-profit organizations.

In addition to the need for balance, consideration will be given to (among other things), qualifications and the ability to contribute to the work of the committee. Applicants should be able to commit to quarterly conference calls or meetings—including at least one in-person session per year.

Those interested must complete and submit an application, either electronically or by mail, to:
