Green Globes for New Construction (NC)
The Green Globes NC tool is a user-friendly web application that helps architects, engineers, construction professionals, owners, and building operators to evaluate, quantify, and improve the environmental friendliness and sustainability of new building projects as well as major renovations. This tool enables project teams to
- Focus on sustainability
- Consider options in environmental improvements during the design and delivery process
- Evaluate and rate the benefits of different design scenarios
Green Globes NC also educates the user while compiling the environmental assessment. Green Globes uses the entries from your NC survey to automatically generate reports that can help you evaluate opportunities to benefit from energy savings, reduced environmental impacts, and lower maintenance costs. Green Globes NC is the only environmental rating system that provides early feedback on your process - before you make critical final decisions. This is a proven method for saving time and money through integrated design and delivery, while benefiting from a cost-effective third-party assessment process. Green Globes NC provides the quickest and most affordable way to assess the environmental sustainability of your new construction or major renovation building projects.
Green Globes has no prerequisites. There are only a few eligibility requirements, ensuring that a wide variety of buildings can undergo Green Globes assessment and certification.
Eligible buildings must:
- Be designed for occupancy
- Have conditioned space
- Have been occupied no longer than 18 months at the time assessment is ordered
- Be at least 400 gross square feet in size
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AREAS
Green Globes for New Construction utilizes weighted criteria in its recognized assessment protocol, comprehensively assessing building environmental impacts on a 1,000-point scale in seven categories. Each of these categories has an assigned number of points that quantify overall building performance – including a comprehensive approach to Energy Performance and a practical and objective method for Life-Cycle Assessment.
The building must attain a minimum percentage of points in each of these environmental assessment areas to be certified.
|Environmental Assessment Area||Points||Description|
|Project Management||50||Integrated Design Process, Meetings, Performance Goals, Environmental Management, Commissioning|
|Site||115||Development Area, Ecological Impacts, Stormwater Management, Landscaping, Exterior Light Pollution|
|Energy||390||Performance, Demand, Metering, Measurement and Verification, Building Opaque Envelope, Lighting, HVAC Systems and Controls, Efficient Equipment, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficient Transportation|
|Water||110||Consumption, Cooling Towers, Boilers & Water Heaters, Water Intensive Applications, Treatment, Alternate Sources, Metering, Irrigation|
|Materials & Resources||125||Building Assembly, Interior Fit-outs, Re-use, Waste, Building Service Life Plan, Resource Conservation, Building Envelope|
|Emissions||50||Heating, Ozone-depleting Potential, Global Warming Potential|
|Indoor Environment||160||Ventilation, Source Control and Measurement, Lighting Design and Systems, Thermal Comfort, Acoustic Comfort|
