Green Globes is a web-based green building guidance and assessment program that offers a practical and affordable way to advance the environmental performance of buildings. Designed for existing healthcare buildings, the Green Globes Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings for Healthcare (CIEB HC) program includes:

  • A comprehensive environmental assessment protocol
  • Web-based tools that streamline assessment
  • Best practices and guidance for “green” healthcare operations
  • Third-party assessors with green building expertise
  • A rating and certification system

Green Globes has been used to on-site assess over 200 existing hospitals and long-term care buildings, more than any other sustainability program in the U.S.

Green Globes CIEB for Healthcare

Green Globes CIEB HC supports the unique requirements of hospitals and extended care facilities. It is a flexible, affordable alternative to LEED that includes an on-site assessment by a third-party and excellent customer support throughout the entire process. Healthcare providers use Green Globes to improve sustainable operations and management of existing medical buildings, campuses, and nationwide building portfolios.

Eligible buildings must:

  • Have at least 12 consecutive months of operational energy & water data.
  • Be a 24/7 skilled nursing facility with licensed beds.

Assessment & Certification Process

Experienced third-party assessors interface with project teams and building owners by reviewing documentation and conducting an on-site assessment.
