Green Globes is a web-based green building guidance and assessment program that offers a practical and affordable way to advance the environmental performance of buildings. Designed for existing healthcare buildings, the Green Globes Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings for Healthcare (CIEB HC) program includes:
Green Globes has been used to on-site assess over 200 existing hospitals and long-term care buildings, more than any other sustainability program in the U.S.
Green Globes CIEB HC supports the unique requirements of hospitals and extended care facilities. It is a flexible, affordable alternative to LEED that includes an on-site assessment by a third-party and excellent customer support throughout the entire process. Healthcare providers use Green Globes to improve sustainable operations and management of existing medical buildings, campuses, and nationwide building portfolios.
Green Globes uses a well-established assessment protocol to comprehensively assess environmental impacts on a 1,000 point scale in multiple categories:
| Environmental Assessment Area | Points | Description |
| Energy | 350 | Performance, efficiency, management, CO2, transportation |
| Water | 78 | Performance, conservation, treatment |
| Resources | 110 | Waste reduction, recycling |
| Emissions | 175 | Boilers, water effluents, hazmat |
| Indoor Environment | 190 | Air quality, lighting, noise |
| Environmental Management | 97 | EMS documentation, purchasing, environmental awareness |
