It has been eight exciting years since the Green Building Initiative was founded and while many things have changed, a few fundamental principles have remained as much a part of the organization today as they were when we opened our doors in 2004.
First and foremost, our commitment to accelerating green practices in the design and operation of buildings has remained the philosophical backbone of our organization.
It has always been our belief that building owners are far more likely to assess and certify their own green practices if they have access to user-friendly and cost-effective evaluative tools such as the Green Globes® suite of products that we exclusively administer in the United States. The GBI launched this suite of products in the face of firmly entrenched competition several years ago and today it enjoys growing acceptance in the public and private sectors as arguably the number two player in the space. Green Globes has also been embraced by a long list of local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as blue chip corporations, organizations, educational institutions and small businesses seeking a cost-effective, yet credible alternative for green building certification.
Keeping a close eye on our customers and their needs, we have also launched several new products designed to further differentiate ourselves and better serve our customers.
A version of Green Globes for healthcare facilities was developed in close coordination with the US Veterans Affairs Administration and is now available for use in the private sector. We have also branched out beyond Green Globes to develop a separate certification, Guiding Principles Compliance, specifically for federal agencies to evaluate their buildings against this federal protocol as mandated by Executive Order.
Our organization is supported by our customers and a diverse group of forward-thinking companies and organizations who share our commitment to ensuring an ever-greening built environment.
