Top Story To meet the specialized needs of hospitals and long-term care facilities, GBI has launched a new healthcare module of its environmental assessment and certification tool, Green Globes™ for Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings (CIEB). Known as Green Globes CIEB Healthcare, the new module was developed with input from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to address the complexities, regulations and demand for services associated with healthcare facilities. The new version of the tool has already been used to complete online surveys for 170 VA facilities, which has enabled portfolio-wide comparison and ranking of individual building performance. More |

Last week, Oregon became the 23rd U.S. state to formally recognize Green Globes when it signed into law two bills that specifically name the GBI's environmental assessment and rating system - while the City of Portland, Maine has written Green Globes into its revised green building code. More GBI president Ward Hubbell recently testified before Congress in support of an open playing field for green building certification in the federal sector, particularly within the General Services Administration (GSA). Hubbell urged the GSA to reconsider its LEED-only policy, arguing that competition will lead to innovation in the green building sector and citing examples from other government agencies that have used the Green Globes rating system to assess and certify buildings. As the science and technology of green building and operations / management evolves, so too must the standards and software that embody it. Accordingly, GBI recognizes that the future of existing building assessment and certification likely includes additional specific / tailored variants of Green Globes for different building occupancy types. More Green building just got bigger in Minnesota with the Green Globes certification of the state's tallest building, the IDS Center, and the corporate headquarters of Medtronic, the world's largest medical technology company. Both buildings were assessed and certified using Green Globes for Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings and achieved a certified rating of three Green Globes. More For Frank Gonzalez, a forensic and preservation architect at ENVIRON International, achieving the Green Globes Professional (GGP) designation inspired a program to educate clients about green building. As a result, he is both raising his profile as an expert in green building rating systems and shining a spotlight on his firm. More
GBI and gas utilities consortium Energy Solutions Center (ESC) have entered into a marketing affiliation agreement to introduce ESC members and their clients to the Green Globes system. The two organizations will collaborate to offer commercial building clients of the gas utilities a program that guides them toward greater energy efficiency. More
