A sea of ''new faces'' at its green building seminars led the Home Builders Association of Greater Little Rock to expand its Green Built program throughout Arkansas. ''The interest went far beyond our own association,'' said Joseph Burak, executive officer of the HBA. ''Now builders across the state have access to the tools they need to build quality, high-performance homes.'' More


The GBI Web site now features an education section aimed at helping school districts and campuses take advantage of federal grants for new or remodeled schools that achieve a Green Globes rating—including the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the proposed 21st Century Green High Performing Public School Facilities Act. More GBI board member and noted energy expert Dr. Harvey Bryan recently testified at a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing on the subject of “Oversight of the GSA and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings.” More The National Institute of Health will award $1 billion in grants to non-federal research institutions that propose to renovate, repair or improve core facilities. Projects that cost $10M or more and/or impact 40% or more of the floor area must be certified through the GBI’s Green Globes environmental assessment and rating system or the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system. The Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) has undertaken several initiatives to promote sustainability and provide environmental information on its products, including indoor air quality certification, a sustainability standard, and a project to expand reclamation and recycling. More

Green Globes-Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings: A Continuum of Building Rating and Assessment

Together, these two Green Globes modules support the design of sustainable buildings as well as the measurement, monitoring and improvements necessary to ensure long-term performance. Among other things, this helps to keep operating costs where they should be and lets building owners know quickly and reliably whether specific improvements are having the intended effects.
