Newell Rubbermaid's global corporate headquarters in Atlanta, GA recently became the first building in the state to achieve a certified rating with the Green Globes™ environmental assessment and rating system. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was among dignitaries attending a special dedication ceremony at the building, where Erin Shaffer, vice president of federal outreach for the GBI, presented leaders from Newell Rubbermaid with a plaque recognizing the building's achievement of two Green Globes. GBI has announced a second letter ballot and public comment period for its proposed American National Standard. Interested parties have 45 days—from October 24 to December 8, 2008—to review changes made to the proposed standard for commercial green buildings, which is based on the Green Globes environmental assessment and rating system. More
Barack Obama's environmental platform includes Green Globes. In the section on building efficiency, the Democratic presidential candidate has indicated that he will expand federal grant programs to help states and localities build more efficient public buildings that adopt aggressive green building provisions like those provided by the Green Globes system. More
Colorado's Mesa State College has been awarded the first ever GBI "greening colleges" grant, which (among other things) provides use of the Green Globes tool and allows students to learn about green building in a real-world environment. More


The GBI is seeking educational partnerships with home builder associations (HBAs) that want to utilize our new virtual green training program. New partners to date include the Texas Association of Builders, the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of New Hampshire and the Home Builders Association of Chicago. More

Illustrating a growing awareness that the benefits of green schools far exceed their upfront costs, Bethke Elementary School and Victory Square Center (a Umatilla Morrow Head Start pre-school facility) recently achieved certified ratings using the Green Globes system.
